Source: Ajdi Groundhopper

Well I planned to go to Pelsall Villa v Walsall Wood but in the end i had a change of plan and decided to go to a new ground. So off i set up to Tamworth 15 miles away from Birmingham and for some reason 28 home hmmm.

I arrived at the ground about half 1 so nice and early and visited the bar in the social club and was told they hadnt done a programme this week but i didnt mind as admission was free. The ground itself was basic but good enough just a part railed pitch and the clubhouse behind the goal. Polesworth were in Red and Chelmsley in sky blue.

Chase the ball

The game itself was abit of a massacre for Polesworth who seem desperately low on confidence, and it didnt take long for Chelmsley to open the scoring, a  defender tried to do a diving save on the line but the shot still trickled in. It was 2-0  shortly after abit of head tennis in the box was duly converted with a header.Sadly the first half was played in near hurricane conditions with a biting wind blowing the ball everywhere.

Chilly atmosphere

It was 3-0 by half time more poor defending meant a 2nd crack at the cherry for the attacker whose bobbling effort was deflected in.Polesworth stemed the tide in the 2nd half as the wintery sun came out abit but despite there efforts found themselves 4-0 down , another error by a defender had the ball whipped of his toes and buried into the net for a breakaway goal.

Polesworth had a consolation via a penalty about 10 mins from the end. All in all though a enjoyable afternoon at a new ground for me but on another note definately time to get the wooly hat and gloves out.

Was it going to third time lucky?

We couldn't have gone in to todays Final in better form.  The lads were in tremendous spirits and well up for the game.
Phillip Wright, Oliver Burton and Adam Lee were the surprise inclusions in the Cup Final squad.  Influential skipper Warren Perks was ruled out due to injury and Jack Duffy was left out of the squad.

Our preparation was perfect, the lads looked fully focused on finally bringing the Cup back to Chelmsley Town.
However just as previous years we got off to the worst start.  We failed to keep the ball and looked nervous when in possession of the ball.  We were slack at picking up the second ball and Boldmere sensed they had the opportunity to take the lead.

They did just that after slack marking from a corner, and quickly they added a second.  We were shell shocked and looked like we were going to crumble and loose the game in the first half.

Some how Boldmere failed to add a third and on the stroke of half time we scored much against the run of play.  A deep flighted free kick saw Carl Betts rise highest and smash home a header at the back post!  Some how game on! but I wasn't complaining!

Some words were said at half time and the lads truly knew that they had let themselves down with their first half performance and they knew they now had to go out and put it right.

Second half we looked a different team and bossed the whole of the second half.  Scott Hewitt sent our fans wild as he leveled the scores with a rare left footed strike after some good build up play.  Then with our tails up we scored again when substitute Phillip Wright scored with only his second touch to give us a 3-2 lead having been two nil down.

Boldmere never gave up but they looked a beaten team and we should have added fourth to put the game out of sight but it never came.  Boldmere's plight got even harder when they were reduced to ten men late on.

It was our year and at the sound of the final whistle we finally had won that elusive first piece of silver wear.

I was so pleased for the players who gave their all.  The joy and emotion on there faces when the cup was raised was some thing I'll never forget.

Hard luck to Boldmere who played the game in great spirit and must feel hard done by after leading two nil at one point in the game.  However, finally it was our year!

10 men Lambs lift Trophy

Under the guidance of Ian Wilson, Tamworth Youth lifted the Fazeley Charity Cup at New Mill Lane on Sunday afternoon but made hard work of it.

Leading 3-0 at the break through goals from Harry Hambleton and Luke Keen (2), Danny Walker picked up his second yellow card of the afternoon to leave his side a man short for the rest of the game shortly after the restart.

Chelmsley Town scored the resultant penalty and then got two more to take the game to extra time.

James Stark lobbed home from fully 30 yards early into the first period of extra time to give Tamworth the lead and Hambleton bagged his second in the second period to make it 5-3.

Chelmsley got one back and hit the bar in the closing minutes but the young Lambs held on.
