The pitch at Stratford had made a good recovery after overnight rain, and although hard in patches did not appear to cause the players much trouble. Chelmsley did most of the early attacking but Stratford defended well and came away several times with quick attacks. The best opportunity came midway through the half when Hancock sent Bass away with a through pass but the Chelmsley goalkeeper made a fine save. At the other end, Chelmsley forced several corners but these were fruitless. In the closing moments Wootton. in the Stratford goal, had difficulty in holding the ball from a fierce drive but he managed to regain posession and clear his lines.
