Stafford share spoils
Stafford FC, members of the Midland Combination Second Division allowed a goal advantage to slip away from them in a league clash against Chelmsley Town at Burton Manor on Saturday.
Short possession play paid dividends for Stafford in the opening half and good ground work defender Keith Bathe led to Joe Newman opening the scoring in 20 minutes.
With former Armitage player Neil Alexander making his debut in the Stafford attack, the local side went further ahead just after the restart.
The man on the mark was Alexander who put away a cross from Bathe.  After this breakthrough, however, Stafford experienced a difficult spell and Town drew level.
"But my lads applied themselves again and we finished the stronger of the two teams", said Stafford team manager Mick Young.
Defender Steve Hawkins made his debut and looks a promising prospect.
"I was quite happy to get one point against such a good side as Chelmsley", added Young.

NORTH WARWICK NEED A STRIKER
Polesworth North Warwick's caretaker manager Buster Kendall, has the problem of finding a new striker for his side - and quickly.   That was the message from the 3-1 home defeat by Chelmsley Town in the Midland Combination second division.
Polesworth took the lead, but then tossed away several chances to have the game sewn up well before Chelmsley came back to score two quick goals midway through the second half.
Just to add to the problems, Keith Guild missed a penalty that would have put Polesworth back on terms.... but instead the visitors broke away to score again and make sure of the points.
Bobby Haynes opening the scoring with a first time shot from a Phil Yates cross.  Shortly afterwards Haynes hit the bar with another effort as Polesworth made all the first half running.
They were on top, too, at the start of the second half but Chelmsley were encouraged by the fact that the pressure was not turned into goals and they hit back themselves to snatch the lead.
Yates was brought down and from a hotly disputed penalty Guild's shot was turned round the post by the 'keeper.
With five minutes to go Chelmsley added a third as the Polesworth defence cracked under heavy pressure.
