THE SEASONS SUMMARY

Well our first season as the newly formed Chelmsley Town (1994) FC comes to a close and personally I am looking forward to the rest.  Well, if you consider a 'rest' as re-seeding; building repairs; and the organistation of, hopefully, two prestigious friendlies!
The season started full of optimism following an excellent pre-season but our first tow games against Alvechurch Villa and Studley BKL conceding 8 and scoring 2 soon showed us that the season was not going to be easy.  Due to economic pressures the Committee had to cut the players budget early in the season but I was very pleased to see the loyalty shown by the majority of the squad.  Christmas arrived and we had reached 8th position in the league and were still in three Cup competitions being the B'ham County FA Vase, Challenge Cup and the new Alliance Cup and thisng were looking good.
Sadly, between Boxing Day and 18th Feb which, due to bad weather was actually only six games we tumbled back into the relegation zone and crashed out of the three Cups.
During March and April our fortunes fared somewhat better and we now lie in 11th position above both local neighbour's Coleshill and Knowle which is pleasing.  Personally I feel that the style of football played this season should have put us in the top six but sadly goalscoring is the name of the game and this is the department in which we have struggled.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Paul Johnson for managing, organising and even funding the side under difficult circumstances - an excellent john has been done.  Besides the manager many other people have contributed to the smooth running of the club and without them the club would not have survived.  My thanks go to:

GEORGE STORER: his invaluable services as trainer have been much appreciated
KEVIN BYRNE and TONY GORMLEY: for acting as joint managers in Paul's absence.
ROBIN WORLEY: 'Mr Versatile' - his help with the team and to myself has been invaluable.
BARBARA BATES: Without Barbara this and all the other programmes would not have existed and her help with the bar is, as always, very much appreciated
JULIE GORMLEY: For smoothly running the catering, cleaning the club and always being willing to help behind the bar when necessary.
PAT CRAYTHORNE and CLIVE KETTLE: They have both helped with repairs, odd jobs and emergencies - many thanks.
PHIL HARRIS and CRAIG: for their barmanship on Sundays and night games - allowing me to catch up on my sleep
ALAN and EMMA: (Barbara's nephew and niece) - their help on matchdays has been much appreciated.
CAROL, WALLY, SID and BEAU: Your weekly support, rain or shire, is both required and very much appreciated.

With regards to next season, it appears we will still be at the Pavilions as we also may be for a further season after that.
As you are no doubt aware Monica Star leave us to go to their new ground in Yardley and as a result we are starting Chelmsley Town (1994) FC Reserves they will compete in the Midland Comb, hopefully Division 2.  Cliev Kettle will manage the side and sponsorship will hopefully totally fund the cost.  If anyboby knows of any potentoal sponsor for either side - please let me know.
Finally, a big 'thank you' to all the lades for their efforts and loyalty this season.  I hope you all have a pleasant summer and look forward to seeing you for the pre-season.

SPORTS ARGUS WROTE
Delighted Coleshill Town boss Bob Nimmons has seen his long time struggling side hit real championship form in the last month. Coleshill, everyone's favourite whipping boys in the opening months of the season, have only lost once in their last six games while winning three. Nimmons said the success has been due to the fact he has been able to field a settled side for the first time this season. He has also heaped praise on strikers Jason Phillips, Jonathan Johnson and Jimmy Stafford, who have hit 14 goals between them in these six games. The turn around started when Coleshill went to Highgate United and won 5-1 before beating title challengers Shirley Town 2-0 also away. On Boxing Day, goals by Stafford, Phillips and Jamie Shipway gave Coleshill a convincing local derby win over improved Chelmsley Town 94 at Packington Lane. Nimmons said "The only game we lost out of these six was against Studley but we could have won that if we had put our chances away. The fact we have been able to field the same side with just one or two changes has worked really well for us".

A VERY heavy pitch saw both sides giving away a lot of free kicks but at the interval neither had managed to break the deadlock.

Meir's best opportunity came just on the half hour when Wayne Moran put over a superb cross that best both defenders and the keeper.

Martin Wood missed what turned out to be the clearest cut chance of the half.

Just five minutes from the break a diving header from Steve Bott sailed just past the upright.

The Midland Combination Invitation Cup is a trophy that the league decides who and when teams can enter, when time allows. It wasn't played for every year. This season, because the Mid Com lost ten teams and the Premier league had only 18 teams, the Invitation Cup was played for. Eight teams entered which meant the win over Chelmsley meant Town were in the Semi Final. Very few details are available but the Final was played at Bilston Town between Handrahan Timbers and West Midlands Fire Service with the Timbers winning 3-2. Coleshill must have played one of these two teams in the semi-final but I have no details.

The home side took the lead on 14 minutes with Tyman laying on the ball for KEEN to finish with a crisp shot.

Meir drew level right from the re-start with Scott Reaney feeding brother DARREN, who showed superb control before beating the keeper from the edge of the box.

Half-Time: 1-1

17/04/1995 Chelmsley Town 1 Coleshill Town 0

Goalscorer: Ray Usher

Chelmsley Team: Ray Usher, 10 Unknown

Coleshill Team: 11 Unknown

As Coleshill and Chelmsley are such near neighbours, they tend to play on Bank Holidays or midweek at least, so reports are hard to come by. In this derby neither side had much to play for as the two sides lay in mid table, away from a relegation fight but too far away from troubling the championship contenders. Coleshill had previously beaten Chelmsley 3-0 at Pack Meadow in the league and also 2-0 in the Invitation Cup, but the home side gained some revenge with a single goal enough to win the game.
