Crosses by Kenny Devoir open the door as Blanchette, Smith and Lomas all convert their chances.

Brocton were on the front foot from the star and after a flurry of near misses the more pessimistic of the home support may well have thought that this was going to be one of those days. Jack Weldon began with a double strike, both attempts blocked, before a Dan Lomas header gave Regan Smith a chance, again blocked. Smith almost turned provider moments later with a cross met by Christian Blanchette, who volleyed wide.
Their tails up, the passing was incisive and a through ball into Blanchette’s timely run put him through, only to be hauled down by Adam Keeley. The referee had little option but to send Keeley off.
The resulting free kick continued the trend by finding the post and bouncing to safety. Then a great pass set Jack Weldon free on the right and his ball to Smith was crossed for Dan Lomas, but his firm downward header once again found the post. Those pessimists must have been in full voice as Chelmsley then went on to take an unlikely lead. A free kick for them outside the box was drilled in and as the Brocton defence watched, the ball was prevented from going out for a corner and put back into the danger area where Steve Sadler slotted home.
Within spitting distance of half time though Kenny Devoir, tight to the right hand bye line, swung in a perfect cross and Blanchette headed home. Devoir repeated the move in the very next attack and this time Smith was on hand to slot home. The third cross in little more than as many minutes produced panic in the box and the ball first got stuck under a defender’s, before a desperate attempt to clear could only put the ball into the net.
The second half continued in the same vein as Devoir this time found the head of Smith, who buried his chance. Blanchette then had to be replaced by Josh Wilson having been injured in a tackle that raised everybody’s hackles. Fortunately tempers were kept and the game carried on.
Chelmsley had to work hard and did not give up this now uneven contest but when Malaki Norford had his shot blocked, it was Dan Lomas who followed up to tap in and a great run and pull back by Smith gave Lomas his second, this time with a firm drive past keeper James Kelly.
The final goal came from the hard working Jack Weldon and was memorable for his acrobatic change of body position as Smith could not quite get his head onto a cross, but did enough to divert from the waiting Weldon, who never the less twisted and got his goal.

Brocton are in second place in the Midland League Division One after a superb 7-1 mauling of Chelmsley Town at Silkmore Lane.
Chelmsley were reduced to ten men after just ten minutes when Adam Keeley was red carded for bringing down Christian Blanchette. In the 19th minute however, the ten men went in front when Stephen Sadler scored from close range.
A four-goal blitz in eight minutes then turned things in the Badgers’ favour. Blanchette scored with a towering header in the 42nd minute and 60 seconds later Regan Smith found the net with a calm finish. Right on half-time a scramble in the Chelmsley box ended with an own goal to make the half-time score 3-1.
Five minutes after the break a Smith header made it 4-1 and then he hit the bar with a free-kick. Dan Lomas scored with a close-range effort in the 80th minute and two minutes later scored again. Jack Weldon added the seventh goal two minutes from time with a header.

Hinckley’s Leicester Road FC eased to a comfortable 5-0 home win over Birmingham side Chelmsley Town to make it three straight start-of-season wins.
After their FA Cup heroics in Stoke last weekend, the Road were back on league duties and after an early own goal broke the deadlock, further well taken strikes from Jordan Burrows, Matt Langham and a brace from Nuno Gomes sealed three straightforward enough points.
LRFC began brightly and on 2 mins an outrageous Burrows dummy flummoxed the away defence, but the ball just ran out of play as he closed in on goal. A misplaced Chelmsley header then put Langham free and his fierce shot was just diverted wide by the keeper’s outstretched boot.
Following a Chelmsley free kick that went high and wide, the Road broke swiftly and Liam Read raiding down the left fed Gomes on the right and cutting in his curling shot was only just finger tipped wide.
It was all Leicester Road and when Sam Munton beat his man down the right wing on 7 mins and put in a dangerous cross, the Chelmsley centre half could only lunge and divert if past his helpless keeper.
On 10 mins Chelmsley did have half a chance with a dinked ball over the top, but their centre forward was flagged offside and minutes later a similar pass almost caught the Road out, but skipper Callum Earls got back to head clear to ease the danger.
The Road continued to dominate possession and territory, however, and on 20 mins a lovely, flowing move made it 2-0 with Gomes this time raiding down the right and putting in a far post cross that Read did really well to hook back on the volley, so Burrows could ghost in and finish emphatically.
A Chelmsley free kick minutes later did sneak through, but Road centre half Adam Hohn was on the post to clear. LRFC full back Pro Ncube then saw a looping cross graze the bar with the keeper stranded and on 35 mins a curling Mylan Charles free kick found Langham on the edge of the box and his snapshot flew just wide.
Gomes also got a shot off that was well saved low down and Read’s 25 yard pile driver dipped wickedly, forcing the keeper to scramble it away second attempt - but on 43 mins it was 3-0 as a neat one two between Langham and Gomes saw the latter shoot low into the bottom right corner.
Road keeper Will Highland did have to smartly palm away a drilled shot right on half time, but the Road were in control – and they didn’t let up second half. On 50 mins a dangerous right wing cross was missed by everyone, but Earls was unable to get his shot off quick enough and it was cleared.
Munton, Read and Gomes were all still causing problems with their darting runs and when the latter got his cross in on 67 mins, Langham side footed it clinically into the bottom corner for 4-0. On 75 mins Gomes and Munton again combined well, but when the former beat the offside trap he clipped his shot over the advancing keeper only to watch it roll agonisingly wide.
Fine minutes later mind it was 5-0 when Burrows was fed down the right by a cute Earls pass, who found Read around the penalty spot – and although his goal bound shot was blocked, Gomes this time steered it in from a tight angle.

Hinckley AFC made it two wins in three days as they hit five for the first time in almost a year in a comprehensive win at Chelmsley Town.

In Hinckley’s biggest away win since April 2018, there were three fine individual strikes in the second half as Courtney Belford’s men also kept a third clean sheet in four games.
Three goals in ten minutes either side of half time did the damage as Jake Healy’s brace late in the first half set Hinckley on their way before Luke Richards’ fine solo goal put the game to bed.
Then Ryan Ball and Dimitri Dunkley both struck eye-catching late goals of their own to add gloss to the scoreline.
Belford made two changes to the side that beat Paget Rangers on Saturday, as Mark Williams and George Brindley came in for Bekir Halil and Greg Webb.
The sides exchanged early chances as Ty Belford held Kye Dryden’s best chance for the hosts after a neat passage of play, before a corner led to Healy’s effort forcing a smart save from Tom Allsop.
And AFC broke the deadlock eight minutes before the break. Dimitri Dunkley’s clever trickery down the right saw him leave his man on the floor and cross for Healy to convert on the volley from close range.
Richards then missed a glorious chance for his first of the season when he somehow put Luke Delaney’s pullback wide from inside the six yard box with an open goal to hit.
But it didn’t matter too much, as on the stroke of half time, Hinckley hit another blow. This time Healy was brought down by Liam Norris in the box, but he dusted himself down and slotted home the resulting spot kick for his second in eight minutes.
If Chelmsley harboured any hope of a result, they needed a fast start to the second period but instead it was Hinckley who quickly put the result to bed.
The only thing missing from the season so far was a goal for striker Richards, but he made up for his earlier miss two minutes into the half. His first of the season was worth the wait – a magnificent solo effort, turning and beating three defenders on a powerful run before burying from outside the box.
Chelmsley nearly pulled one back through a stunner of their own, but Dominic Oliver’s ambitious free kick from fully 45 yards struck the post and Williams hacked the rebound to safety.
As Hinckley sought further goals, Ball’s pinpoint through ball was controlled just too heavily by Commins, whose touch allowed Allsop to gather when one on one.
But Hinckley were almost having their own goal of the month contest in one half, Ball adding to the contenders with a fine strike from 25 yards to net his first for the club after Allsop’s punch only reached the edge of the box.
And as the game entered stoppage time, Dunkley added a goal to his display as he turned his man and lashed one into the roof of the net for his second in two games.
It almost became six, but after Commins’ good work down the right, Dunkley’s scuffed effort hit the post, and after pinball in the box Lewis Collins backheeled into the net but it struck Dunkley on the line in the process, and was ruled out for offside.
But it was still Hinckley’s biggest win of 2019 as they moved to the top of the early season table.

FC STRATFORD boss Dave Poulson hopes Dylan Parker’s hat-trick against Chelmsley Town in the FA Vase will act as a catalyst for him to push for a place in the Stratford Town first team.
Parker, making his third appearance for Poulson, proved to be the difference in Sunday’s Vase first qualifying round tie at the Arden Garages Stadium, as his three goals were enough to give his side a 3-2 victory over higher-ranked Chelmsley.
FC Stratford, who pocketed £550 prize money, will now entertain another Midland League Division One side in GNP Sports in the second qualifying round on Saturday, 14th September.
Poulson said: “It was great to see Parker getting a hat-trick and as much as it would be great to have him with us for a while, I really hope this is the catalyst for him to be playing at a higher level again.”
When asked about Parker’s form, first team boss Tommy Wright said: “He was unfortunate not to be involved in our last two games, but I set him the challenge of getting FC Stratford through to the next round of the Vase and he did exactly that.
“We shall see how he does this week in training, but I’m sure he will be doing his best to stake a claim for a shirt this weekend.”
FC Stratford return to Midland League Division Two action on Saturday when they make the trip to Moor Green Academy (3pm kick-off).

Lichfield City FC lost ground on the sides at the top of the table after a shock loss to basement boys Chelmsley Town.
Jay Hawkins’ men had high hopes going into the game, with the two sides at opposite ends of the Midland Football League, but their clinical edge from recent fixtures had deserted them for once.

An early Danny Brain goal gave the early season strugglers the lead and put City on the back foot.
Dan Griffiths fired wide from distance as Lichfield looked to rally from going behind before Tom Brown sent a volley over the top.

Kyle Patterson should have found the leveller when he went through one-on-one with the keeper but couldn’t get the better of the Chelmsley stopper.

City’s run of pressure eventually told and they levelled when Brown’s strike came back of the bar, but he reacted quickly to head home the loose ball.

But Chelmsley repeated their first half trick in the second period with Brain again finding the net.

Lichfield keeper Adam Jenkins made a smart save to prevent the hosts extending their lead before Max Black saw his effort kept out at the other end.

James Taylor headed over for a corner as Lichfield continued to try and carve out a chance, but it wasn’t enough as City slipped to fourth while their hosts climbed off the foot of the table.

Romans Scuppered At Coles-Hill By Chelmsley’s Guerrillas…

Chelmsley Town 3-1 Rocester

This was a surprising result for the independent onlooker, for despite an initial surge by Town, the Romans of Rocester grew into the contest and really ought to have scored more than the single goal smuggled in by right-sided attacker Elisio Francisco, which had equalised Kye Dryden’s early strike for the hosts. A free-kick goal by well known home forward Luke Barlone had given Town a 2-1 half-time lead but the feeling was that if Roman Jordan Dodd could keep his form, surely the guests would spoil the Chelmsley party. However, the second period was a gross disappointment, containing infringements, spoiling tactics, poor passing and in general, a total degeneration in the level of play. A very late third goal for Town, again netted emphatically by Dryden, rubbed salt into the sore gums of the Roman defence, in which skipper Carl ‘Centurion’ Allen and Josh ‘Optio’ Sedgley had performed stealthily.

The match referee was patient, dished out a few cautions but displayed some annoyance just before Chelmsley’s third goal by sin-binning Barlone, not long after he had booked him. Barlone had apparently been involved in an altercation with a spectator who, probably like most Rocester fans, was severely miffed by the striker’s dramatic falls with excruciating yells, which usually impressed the main official…

It was a cold night at Pack Meadow and I had ventured up a bouncing metal ladder to reach a platform above a shelter, opposite the dugouts and Coleshill Town’s uniquely quaint grandstand. I might take on the nickname ‘Gantryman’ soon but in truth, for filming on a dark night under not overly bright floodlights, the view was rather decent. It was cold up there though. In fact it was very cold indeed up yonder. It’s called global warming, you know…

However, Town started well, Dryden forcing visiting goalie Charlie Wood to save a low shot at his right post, then the ‘keeper leapt right to keep out a decent free-kick by the busy Dom Oliver. Subsequently though, Rocester would make a break forward, Dodd delayed his pass to the criminally badly marked Francisco to his right and Town nabbed the ball and counter-attacked quickly. A pass by right-sided defender John Daley sent the speedy Dryden clear at inside-left and his low left-booter beat the advancing Wood and rested in the bottom right corner of the net. Soon, Barlone reached the left byeline but when Roman Matt Nutt deflected the ball towards his own near post, Wood saved with one of his caligae, tied about his feet. (Boots…)

FRANCISCO HAS MADE IT 1-1...

Until the hosts scored again, the game was notable for the offense created by the Romans and really, they should have been ahead before Barlone scored with his set-piece. Jordan Godfrey’s near post header from a left-wing corner clipped the upright, nearly removing Francisco’s head in the process, Luke Smith drove wide from a good position and then the Legion regained parity. A free-kick from wide left by Jack Hurd simply bounced across the goal-face, seemingly ignored by the players who probably thought someone else would latch onto it. Francisco must have been so surprised to tap the ball over the goal-line at the right stick…

Dodd powered a low left-footer from 17 yards which home gloveman Josh Benton dived left for to keep out of his goal, then Dodd chested down a long ball at 16 yards and volleyed it as it fell, missing the target by not much. Finally, Smith got in a hard header from 4 yards, as he met Hurd’s fine centre at the near post but somehow Benton reacted superbly to claw the ball away. A Francisco shot rose way too high but it really did seem a matter of time before the Romans breached the Chelmsley wall held by guarding skipper Steve Sadler and the inimitable Chris Gumery…

SECOND PERIOD...

Not so, because after a fine challenge on the well placed Dryden by Allen to relieve some pressure, Town won a free-kick 19 yards from goal. Oliver was probably told by Barlone, “Pardon me, my good man, this one is very much mine…” (What he actually said probably went something like: “I’m f…..’ havin’ this…”) And the forward lashed a chest-high shot round Rocester’s defensive wall (He breached a Roman wall? Really?) and into the net via the right post. There was still time for Oliver to fasten onto a Roman error but chip his shot too high.

ILLUMINATION REQUIRED...

Thus the recess arrived and with Roman Asa Tomkinson scurrying about in midfield, Hurd looking mildly dangerous and Dodd leading the offense like he wanted a memorial arch built in Rocester using JCB diggers and equipment, it still seemed only a matter of time before the Legionaries plundered the spoils.

Except that, er, they didn’t… The second period was as uninspiring as the opening period had been interesting. So few actual chances were created that it became more trench warfare in World War 1 than an ancient Roman attack on Coles-Hill… A shot from distance by Allen for Rocester was fielded by Benton, a low Hurd effort was fielded too and in the closing seconds, Sedgley (I think…) drove a low delivery across the face of the home goal from right to left. The hosts? Liam Morris drove too high and Dryden scored in added time and, er, that was that…

Cautions for Nutt and Hurd of Rocester, plus Morris (for an unseemly challenge) and Barlone for Town underlined the petty nature of the second 45, following the tea and biscuits interval. Yes, Dodd battled, without getting the better of Gumery and Sadler, yes, Francisco flattered to deceive but much of the Romans’ good work emanated from Allen and Tomkinson, sometimes Godfrey and Smith. The visitors made three substitutions, all to no avail and when Dryden moved into the right side of the 18 yard box to lash a rising drive into the top right corner of the net, Roman hearts bled.

Dryden took his chances, Rob and Tom Ellis were effective for the hosts, Benton’s saves were crucial and Barlone was simply a pain in the arse.

It didn’t escape my notice either that on the Rocester team there was a Wood, a Hill and a Marsh, as well as a Hurd, a Nutt and a Sedg-ley… Hmm, a bit countryside-like…

So, I descended the icy metal ladder from my perch and drove the few miles home for a slice of fruit cake and a bowl of Cheerios.

It’s what you do, when you are Gantryman…

ROMS ON THE SPOT

Chelmsley Town 1-1 Romulus FC
(Roms win 2-4 on pens)

Romulus began their defence of the Midland League Cup with a tricky away tie at the Pack Meadow ground against Chelmsley Town on a freezing Monday night.

The game kicked off with Roms on the front foot passing the ball round well, but not finding that telling final ball.

After a few half chances Romulus were awarded a penalty which Jordan Nadat dispatched sending the keeper the wrong way and putting the visitors one goal to the good.

Eventually Chelmsley on the break found a through ball that resulted in a neat finish to level the scoreline. After the goal the home side played with more confidence, but Roms still created chances before half time.

The second period got underway and Chelmsley Town came out with more attacking intent, but never really bothered Brad Clarkson in the Romulus goal.

With substitutions made Romulus began to dictate the match more, but could not find that winning strike.

A moment of slight humour was brought to the game from the referee in the middle. During a stop in play the ref realised he had split his boot and went towards the technical areas. Thankfully the Roms bench came to the rescue providing tape to strap his boot back whilst causing a few laughs and comments from the stands.

Romulus finished the the game strongly, but with the whistle gone it was straight to penalties to decide the cup tie.

With Chelmsley Town missing two kicks and Roms with a 100% record, it was captain Tom Weale that struck the decisive penalty to send Romulus through to the next round with a 2-4 advantage.

Roms now turn their thoughts back to the promotion push when they will entertain Lye Town at Castle Vale Stadium on Saturday 23rd November with a 3pm kick off.

Heath Hayes maintained their fine Midlands Football League Division one run  with  three points from Chelmsley Town – making it nine points from three games. After scoring six against Stafford last week, Hayes went ahead on seven minutes when Dean Williams looped a shot over the keeper – and should have been further ahead at half-time with the chances created. It took only six second-half minutes for Jason Holmes to net a screamer, followed three minutes later when Matt O’Doherty volleyed home direct from a corner. Hayes were now in control but Chelmsley brought themselves back into the game with a shot from 20 yards which gave goalkeeper Dom Cotter no chance. The game was sealed in injury time when Ben Wilkinson netted from close range to bring the score to 4-1 arguably Hayes best game of the season.

Hinckley AFC picked up their first win of 2020 as three first half goals helped them to a comprehensive 4-0 win over Chelmsley Town.

In truth, Hinckley never looked like relinquishing the lead given to them by Ryan Ball on the quarter hour, with Lewis Commins and Luke Richards adding to the lead before the half time whistle.
And Brady Middleton added a fourth late on – with the clean sheet, a first since August, as pleasing to Courtney Belford and his staff as the four goals.
Belford made two changes to the side that lost out to Studley on Saturday, Commins and Richards both returning to the side.
And Hinckley were in control from the off, going close when Josh Benton’s double saved denied Commins and then Ball, after Middleton had set the former through on goal.
It didn’t take much longer, though, for the opener. The visitors didn’t deal with Curtis Townley’s long throw, and Ball shifted onto his right foot to allow him the space to bend one into the top corner from 20 yards.
Chelmsley briefly threatened to hit back through Kieran Fitzgerald after a breakaway down the right, while Hinckley looked for a second when Benton denied Middleton from a tight angle.
Belford has urged his side to take hold of the key moments in games, and he could have no complaints in this one. Eleven minutes before half time, AFC doubled their lead when Middleton was fouled after playing a pass, but the referee played a good advantage which allowed Commins to cut inside his man and bury coolly into the corner.
Scorer on Saturday, Middleton remained provider for the third, upended in the box after a mazy run. Richards took hold of the ball and, after Shane Benjamin’s miss at the weekend, he made no such mistake as he sent Benton the wrong way from 12 yards.
That gave Hinckley the half time comfort, and they set about increasing that lead further after the break as they continued their stronghold.
Four minutes into the half, Middleton forced a fingertip save from Benton after great work down the right by Commins. From the resulting corner, Ky Green’s header was saved and Commins saw two follow ups blocked on the line.
Then, as Hinckley looked to make their lead more comprehensive, Middleton scuffed wide from Green’s header back across goal.
The sides then exchanged chances as Kye Dryden struck wide after a Chelmsley break down the right, before Ball’s fine knock picked out Richards, who again was denied by Benton.
The only time Hinckley’s clean sheet looked in doubt was with 15 minutes to play, when Fitzgerald’s fine attempt at a 25-yard half volley clipped the bar, while Hinckley hit the woodwork themselves moments later when Halil’s effort from another Commins pull-back was inches too high.
They did, though, grab a fourth with a minute to play when Middleton beat Benton to a long pass into the inside right channel, lofting over the ‘keeper for his second in two games.
For Hinckley, four goals and a clean sheet represents a fine reaction to Saturday’s defeat and sets them up for a trip to GNP Sports on Saturday.

CHELMSLEY Town succumbed to a ruthless performance from table-topping Leicester Road in a 4-1 home defeat in Division One.

CHELMSLEY Town’s
losing run now stands at six games in Division One after a slender 1-0 loss away to Heath Hayes.
Jason Holmes’ goal on the stroke of half-time handed the Staffordshire side all three points at the weekend, keeping Chelmsley submerged in the relegation battle.
Town are currently 17th after their 17th loss of the league campaign, a position they will be unable to rectify until mid-February – given their next fixture at home to Kirby Muxloe is on Saturday, February 15.

TEN-MAN Chelmsley Town remain embroiled in the Midland Football League Division One dogfight after a 2-0 home reverse against Kirby Muxloe.
With Storm Dennis wreaking havoc over the weekend, the majority of the division was out of action following a string of postponements, giving Town a real opportunity to improve their league standing of 18th.
But the visitors from Leicestershire were not so keen to help out their league rivals, departing Pack Meadow with all three points to aid their push for a top-half position.
The hosts’ were not helped by a straight red card for defender Robert Ellis just before the half-hour mark, a dismissal which The Ferrymen were unable to take advantage of until the second half.
Within four minutes of the restart, the visitors had their opening goal after George Bosworth finished from Suleiman Nassor’s pass during a swift counter-attack.
Chelmsley’s afternoon went from bad to worse when the two players switched roles for the second goal on 72 minutes, completing the scoring to compound Town’s misery.
Sitting a place outside of the drop zone, Chelmsley aim for a response away to third-placed Studley in Saturday’s trip to The Beehive (3pm).

The result leaves Chelmsley placed precariously just above the Division One drop zone in 18th, three points ahead of Nuneaton Griff.

The first 10 minutes of the game had both teams having heated exchanges due to some late challenges from the Chelmsley Town players, which the referee had to intervene and stamp his authority on the game.
The first real chance came not long after with the Chelmsley forward beating the offside trap and the Bilbrook defence for pace, only for his shot to be sliced high and wide. This woke Bilbrook up and on 25 minutes took the lead after a inch perfect pass was took under control and was lifted over the top of the opposition goalkeeper who was sliding out to make the save.
The second goal came on the stroke of half time when Bilbrook where awarded an penalty after a foul just inside the box. The penalty itself was placed to the goalkeepers left, who had guessed the correct way to dive and got a hand on it but could only push it into his own net.

As the second half started Bilbrook had barely had a chance to blink, as Chelmsley reduced the deficit within 30 seconds of the restart. It was now game on.
Chelmsley with the rejuvenated belief so early on where hoping that the shock they had caused to Bilbrook would be enough to get them level quickly. However Bilbrook stood firm and had to ride it out and bring the tempo of the game back down to a level where they could dictate the game.
From here the game had little chances after that with Bilbrook shooting high a wide and Chelmsley having a chance one on one with the goalkeeper who was alert to the danger, flying out his area and clearing the ball down field.

LITTLETON'S new-look team were given a hard introduction into Midland League Division One, going down 6-0 on the 3G pitch at Chelmsley Town.

This continued Littleton's poor run at the venue, never having picked up a point there.

Littleton's best moments of the game came in the first two minutes as two attempts were cleared off the line and from the rebound Sean Cooke smashed his shot against the bar.

Play was pretty even but two free-kicks given away on the edge of the box proved costly.

First on six minutes the 20-yard drive was parried by Joe Gisbourne but Adam Keeley was on hand to tap in the rebound.

Eight minutes later Dom Oliver made it 2-0 scoring direct from the kick.

Then on 29 minutes keeper Gisbourne was sent off for handling outside the box.

Although the 10 men tried hard, goals came at regular intervals with a sum of three in each half and the visitors were pleased to hear the final whistle to pull the curtain down on a dismal start.

Paget Triumph At Chelmsley Town

Paget Rangers triumphed by one goal to nil over a determined Chelmsley Town at Pack Meadow.

The Bears made four changes to the side beaten by Uttoxeter Town, with Ryan Walker and Troy Wallen making their debuts in place of Dave Yonwin and Billy Fagg, Anton Astley replacing the injured Craig Evans and Myles Brown in place of Nathan Corry.

The first half was a very cagey affair with it apparent that neither side wanted to lose this local derby fixture. Chelmsley potentially edged the first 45 with the majority of the attacking play, however Paget were comfortable in possession without really creating any clear cut chances.

In the second half Paget started the brighter and were duly rewarded in the 53rd minute when Ryan Walker was played through and slotted the ball past Kelly in the Chelmsley goal.

Jason Lanns then brought on Billy Fagg and Dave Yonwin and it was the former who spurned several glorious chances to extend the Bears lead. First Fagg shot over when presented with an almost open goal, before a subsequent effort was smashed against the cross bar. Then Fagg had another chance, the ball fizzing to him off a deflection and narrowly being placed wide.

Paget’s profligacy in front of goal could have cost them when Chelmsley created their best chance of the game. Dominic Oliver receiving the ball on the edge of the penalty area and unleashing a fierce drive that clipped the Bears crossbar with Benton beaten.

Paget then had one more chance to seal the points, Dave Yonwin’s dipping effort flashing narrowly wide of the post.

Chelmlsey tried to pile on the pressure, but the Bears’ rear-guard held firm to wrap up another vital three points at the start of the season.

MALVERN Town made progress in the Smedley Crooke Memorial Charity Cup first round with a penalty shoot-out victory over Chelmsley Town after it finished 1-1 on 90 minutes.
Some good work out wide by Ben Lane in the third minute saw his cross deflected into the path of James Febery who lashed wide from just outside the area.
Moments later a ball in from Aaron Griffiths picked out Matt Turner in space at the far post but his effort was well saved by James Kelly.
Our visitors started to get into the game as the half went on without managing to break through our well-organised back-line.
The visitors had a couple of efforts in quick succession on the half-hour as Sam Hulme’s strike had the sting taken out of it with a deflection before the same player fired wide in the next attack.
In fairness too many passes were going astray as neither side could find a way through. Turner almost found a way but his progress was ended by a combination of the goalkeeper and defender and despite the appeals, no penalty was given.
On the stroke of half-time, Lane played through Hunt but he hesitated and it allowed the visitors to get men back to clear the danger and the opening period ended goalless.
The deadlock was broken three minutes into the second half when Lane did well out wide before feeding Turner who fired home to make it 1-0.
A couple of efforts from Lane flashed just wide as we started the second half well and in very much command.
A high ball was pumped into the area by Steve Webb and headed goalwards by Hunt but the ‘keeper made a smart save to deny him.
With 20 minutes to go a strike from the edge of the area by Fusco dipped just over as we continued to see more of the ball without creating too many clear-cut chances.
The visitors went close as Steve Webb cleared off the line from Danny Cullen’s effort, whilst at the other end, Griffiths linked up well with Lane who in turn set up Turner for a low strike that went just wide.
The equaliser came on 84 minutes with a sweet strike beyond the grasp of Charlie Weaver.
As we searched for a winner, some good play out wide by Harry Clark saw his low cross scrambled away ahead of Matt Pinder in the middle.
The visitors survived a series of late corners, the last of which saw Griffiths go down but no penalty was given.
With the scores level at 1-1 on 90 minutes, the tie went straight to penalties where we prevailed 3-2 to take our place in the next round.

HILLSIDERS: Weaver, Webb, Griffiths, A. Sauntson, J. Sauntson, Febery (Loader 54), Turner, Harris, Hunt (M. Pinder 74), Fusco (Clark 81), Lane. Subs not used: C. Smith, Dyde.

Meanwhile a 91st minute penalty from Steve Sadler salvaged a 2-2 draw for Chelmsley Town against vistors Borcton.

After Jack Weldon' netted Brocton's second it looked an uphill struggle for the home team even after Chris Gumery reduced the deficit.

But with virtually the last kick of the game, the Badgers conceded a penalty which resulted in a red card and the opportunity for Sadler to smash in the equaliser from the sport.

Jordan Wade had fired Chelmsley ahead after just 12 minutes before Leicester had Marlon Walters sent off at the start of the second half.

With just seconds to the final whistle Leicester won a penalty which Matt Langham coolly converted to seal a victory which closes the gap on fourth placed Heather St John's whose match at Heath Hayes was postponed.

22/12/2018 Brocton 2 Chelmsley Town 1

Brocton: Corey Mallen, Adam Weldon, Ryan Kimberley, Keiren Nelson, Alex Scott, Connor Haddaway, Matt Kimmins, Jack Weldon, Lee Osborne , Regan. Smith, James McGrady Used Substitutes: Ben Haddaway, Henry Smith

Chelmsley fought hard to come back but the Badgers held on for a welcome win.

The Badgers climbed a place to 12th with a hard-earned win over Chelmsley Town. Chelmsley came to Silkmore Lane with a long unbeaten run since early November. With skipper Dan Lomas serving a one game suspension, the Badgers had to reshuffle their pack. Brocton started the brighter. A long ball from Adam Weldon picked out James McGrady and his shot from 30 yards was just over the bar. The visitor’s responded with Dominic Oliver just wide with a curling effort. Oliver again caused problems for the Brocton defence, finding space but his shot was well blocked by Keiren Nelson. In the 10th minute, a cross from Regan Smith was headed goalwards by Connor Haddaway but James Kelly made a comfortable save. The Badgers took the lead a minute later. A right-wing free-kick was flicked on in the 6-yard box and Lee Osborne stole in at the far post to slide the ball home. Former Brocton striker Nathaniel Lewars forced a fine save from Corey Mallen who diverted his goal bound effort for a corner. Chelmsley were given a lifeline when a push in the penalty area by Nelson was spotted by the eagle eyed officials and a penalty was awarded. Tom Ellis made no mistake from the spot to draw Chelmsley level midway through the half. Brocton went close to restoring their lead three minutes later when Kelly tipped a McGrady cross onto the bar. Lewars had the ball in the net in the 29th minute but the offside flag saved the Badgers. The end to end nature of the game continued with Haddaway off target with a header from a McGrady free-kick. Brocton should have taken the lead in the 37th minute when Alex Scott was allowed a free-header from a corner but his effort cleared the bar. The 2nd goal came for the home side three minutes before the break. An excellent run from Matt Kimmins saw him lay the ball into the path of Osborne, who controlled the ball, picked his spot and fired home. On the stroke of half-time, Nelson again produced a superb block to thwart Danny Brain.
Chelmsley started the second half on the front foot and a mistake by Scott allowed Robert Ellis a shot on goal but again the Badgers defence stood firm and blocked the effort. In the 53rd minute, Haddaway lost possession but Dean Morris missed the opportunity. In the 56th minute, the Badgers goal led a charmed life when Oliver and Robert Ellis had shots blocked and Tom Ellis was wide with the follow-up. Chelmsley continued to press and Oliver was narrowly wide with a free-kick with Mallen well beaten. Oliver was a constant threat and his next effort was deflected for a corner. In the 81st minute, a clearance from Kelly was straight to Haddaway whose effort from the half-way line was off target. Brocton had weathered the storm and Jack Weldon saw a shot blocked following an excellent run and cross from Kimmins. Brocton had appeals for a penalty waved a way after a shot was blocked by a Chelmsley defender.

Hinckley AFC threw away a two-goal half time lead as Chelmsley Town hit five in the second half at the Welfare Ground.

All looked rosy for AFC at the break as Callum Willimont’s first for the club and Sam Belcher’s header gave them a comfortable lead at the midway point.
But a shambolic second half defensively saw a catalogue of errors which allowed the visitors to score five times and take what had looked an unlikely win.
Manager John Ramshaw made just one change to his Hinckley side which looked largely solid during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Nuneaton Griff, with Alando Lewis replacing David Jones up front.
And for the first 45 minutes, it was a competitive game which Hinckley had the better of. Ten minutes had passed when they had their first chance, when Louis Hamilton went through on goal but checked back to come inside a recovering defender, who blocked his shot.
Chelmsley hit back with a chance of their own as Nathaniel Lewars dragged wide of the far post, before AFC opened the scoring on 17 minutes. The visiting defence failed to clear a corner, and Willimont fired a sweet strike into the top corner to open his account for the club.
Then, visiting ‘keeper Peter Maguire blocked bravely from Chris Hollist after good link-up play between Lewis and Grant Ryan, before Belcher was at the heart of a good team move which ended with him pulling back into the area, where nobody could apply a finish.
Chelmsley threatened an equaliser through Danny Brain, who called Yinka Adebowale into action for the first time with a well-struck shot, before Hinckley doubled their lead seven minutes before half time.
It came from the head of Belcher, who met Ryan’s cross with a looping effort which dropped over Maguire and extended Hinckley’s advantage.
It should have set AFC on the way to a second home win of 2019, but instead the positives of the first 45 minutes were a distant memory compared to what was to follow.
The visitors brought on Ryan Conlon at the break in the hope of getting back into the game and immediately looked brighter for it – but they were given a huge helping hand by Hinckley’s mistakes.
Four minutes into the half it was 2-1, a long throw causing confusion and leading to Belcher’s clearance ricocheting off Hollist and rebounding into the net to give the visitors the boost they were after.
And that was a sign of things to come as they erased the deficit two minutes later, Conlon repaying his manager’s faith when he ran onto Maguire’s launched clearance, in behind a static back line to slot home and level.
Just before the hour, it seemed that have given Hinckley the kick up the backside they needed when they restored their lead. Chad Timson floated in a right wing cross, and Ryan rose highest to head home and give Hinckley the advantage again.
But again, it didn’t last – and just two minutes later Chelmsley scored for the third time in 12 minutes through another bizarre goal. Steve Sadler’s free kick from just inside the Hinckley half should have been innocuous, but no Hinckley player dealt with it and it sailed over everyone and into the back of the net.
After the manic first 15 minutes to start the second half, the game settled slightly after that and Hinckley didn’t threaten until a quarter of an hour later when Jean Dakouri hit one wide after a spell of pressure.
At this point, Hinckley looked the more likely winners and they should have taken the lead again with seven minutes to play. It was a golden chance, but Ryan, through on goal, struck the outside of the post and Chelmsley breathed a huge sigh of relief.
And in a game on fine margins, that cost Hinckley in stoppage time. The game was just into time added on when Brain put Chelmsley ahead for the first time from the edge of the box.
And with AFC chasing an equaliser, they sealed a dramatic win when Conlon ran from the halfway line to score his second of the game and wrap up a miserable 45 minutes for Hinckley.

Source: Paget Web Master

Paget succumbed to an opening day defeat at the hands of Chelmsley TownPaget Rangers’ MFL Division 1 campaign got off to a rough start with a 2-1 home defeat to Chelmsley Town.

Despite the result it was the Bears who started stronger, with a couple of corners and chance for Ross Dempster. However, just before the 10 minute mark Jem Mills scored from close range, Paget keeper Jake Locke managed to get two hands to it but it wasn’t enough.

Minutes later a controversial tackle by Robert Ellis on Paget defender Rioual Kousseba-Bakala caused uproar amongst the Paget contingency, resulting in a yellow card for both R. Ellis and Paget’s Liam Norris. Chelmsley kicked on, putting the pressure on the hosts with Dan Egege having a go at the Bears’ goal after just 15 minutes.

Both Dempster and Billy Fagg had opportunities to get the Bears level with less than 20 minutes played, but neither player could find the net and the Wee Gers would continue to be frustrated in front of goal.

With the first half coming to a close the Bears were given a helping hand when Daniel Carter was brought down in the box with seven minutes of the first half still to play. The 2016/17 Paget top scorer stepped up, sent the keeper the wrong way and put the Bears level.

The away side pushed for a second goal before half time, but failed to find the next giving Paget the opportunity to build on Carter’s equaliser in the second half.

It was Paget who had the first chance of the second half, coming in the 55th minute when Rio latched onto Norris’ free-kick, however the Paget defender couldn’t find the back of the net and the score remained level.

Paget continued had chances in front of goal but failed to capitalise on a period of domination in the second half, and were eventually punished on the counter by Chelmsley. Mills shot in the 20th minute was deflected for a corner, scrappy attempts at clearing the ball resulted in the visitors taking the lead again through Matthew Kent.

Myles Phipps introduction caused some problems for Chelmsley but the game’s leaders started to apply the pressure with 15 minutes left on the clock. But the home side responded and a series of chances failed to be converted.

It went all the way to the end but the Bears couldn’t find the net again and frustratingly start the season on zero points.

19/08/2017 Chelmsley Town 1 Littleton 0

LITTLETON left Chelmsley Town feeling sorry for themselves after losing 1-0 in a Midland League Division One game which they dominated for long periods.
The opening half was played at a fast pace with Littleton holding the upper hand and going closest with a good move between Mark Magee and Dan Holloway ending with the latter firing just over.
Early in the second half Magee robbed the centre-half by the corner flag, cut into the box and had his shot saved by the keeper's legs.
Then on the hour the best football of the game saw Magee involved again.
He cut the ball back to Holloway who hit a powerful shot into the top corner only to see Connor Cannon in the home goal make a wonderful one-handed save.
After that Chelmsley created chances which Jack Hartopp in Littleton's goal was able to deal with without undue alarm.
Then on 96 minutes the referee awarded the home side a penalty with the ball striking a defender on the hand.
This was duly converted by Jemuel Mills.
Littleton host Coventry Copsewood on Wednesday (7.45pm) before visiting Brocton on Saturday and hosting local rivals Pershore Town on Bank Holiday Monday (both 3pm).

Stafford Team: Josh Moreton, Ben Gutteridge (Charlie Marshall HT), Harry Bowers, Connor Grant, Dave Wilcock, Walter Vundla, Dan Nowell (Jaiden Brown 82), Jasper Johns (Capt), Shepherd Machingauta (Romano Graham 67), Ryan Bradshaw Jez Redler. Subs not used: Taylor Allen, Connor Leek.

The Reds suffered a 2nd half collapse after leading 2-1 at the break and fell to their 2nd defeat in 4 days.
After just 2 minutes Stephen Sadler crossed into Stafford’s area but the danger was cleared by Connor Grant. 2 minutes later Ryan Bradshaw’s cross was tipped over the bar by Connor Cannon in the visitors’ goal. In the 10th minute Shepherd Machingauta broke through the visitors’ defence bur Cannon saved the shot. Dan Nowell’s 14th minute free kick went across the face of the Chelmsley goal and three forwards failed to get a touch as Stafford began to pile on the pressure. The visitors took a shock lead in the 17th minute when Daniel Egege headed a cross past Josh Moreton. 2 minutes later Stafford were level when Jasper Johns’ freekick hit the bar and the ball fell to Benji Gutteridge who netted from close range. In the 32nd minute Bradshaw ran onto a through ball but volleyed over the bar. 6 minutes before half time Bradshaw’s shot was saved but the ball fell to Machingauta who had an easy finish. Stafford led 2-1 at half time but they should have been further ahead.

The 2nd half was a total contrast to the 1st as Stafford failed to compete and were totally outplayed. 10 minutes into the 2nd half Moreton had to head a wayward back pass off the line. The resulting corner saw Moreton save a shot but the rebound fell to Sam Sadler who had an easy finish to level the scores. After 71 minutes Studley took the lead when Moreton’s great save fell to Egege who reacted quickest to score his 2nd goal. 2 minutes later Studley wrapped up the points when Robert Ellis’ 30 yard shot flew into the net giving Moreton no chance.

As the title of this blog suggests this evening was an opportunity for me to complete my collection of non-leagues sides, in Steps 3 to 6, that have a CV post code. Having already seen Copsewood, Sphinx and United play, I thought that a trip to Green Lane was the icing on the Coventrian God Cake. Of course, United have now moved and play at Butts Park Arena, so even though I have seen all of the teams, I still need to visit United again to complete my CV.

Alvis Sports Club, on Green Lane, plays host to many sports and is quite a large complex that was once part of the Alvis Car and Engine Company, which produced all sorts of cars, engines and military vehicles up until the late 60s.
There is a reasonable sized car park and plenty of extra spots available along the long access road that leads from Green Lane into the sports complex. The football ground is a short walk from the car park, past the clubhouse, and is accessed through a single gate. There are two covered stands on the opposite side of the pitch, one a standing area and one seating, either side of the dugouts which, incidentally, are reminiscent of Eastern European bus shelters.
The covered standing area holds a small secret. It has a very limited seating arrangement within it. Actually, it is what appears to be a piece of bar seating that has been relocated to the stand, very reminiscent of the clubhouse side of Fairford Town's Cinder Lane ground. (see photo). It's little quirks like this that make non-league grounds so appealing.
Stockport Hopper's team sheet
Having not been able to get a programme, I spotted someone carrying a notepad. Always a good source of a team sheet. Sure enough it was a seasoned groundhopper, clutching his hand-written notes. He was kind enough to allow me to take a quick photograph of them so, at least I would have some idea of any who was who out on the pitch. It turned out that my notepad carrying acquaintance, who I assumed was an official from either Alvis or Chelmsley, was a groundhopper from Stockport. That's a hell of a round-trip on a Wednesday evening. Another reason that I don't consider myself to be a ground-hopper.

I spent the majority of the match engaged in conversations with the man from Stockport, who had worked on the railways, travelled a fair bit and visited a vast number of non-league grounds in all parts of the country.

Coming into the game, Chelmsley had played four games and, despite a 6-1 thrashing at Atherstone, were in a position to go top of the league with a win. Alvis had played a game extra and had one just once, a 3-1 victory at Nuneaton Griff in early August. Even more worryingly for the home side, they had not managed a goal in their last three games, two 4-0 and the other 3-0.

With all this in mind, I was fully expecting to Chelmsley take the game by the scruff of the neck, especially with the incentive of going top of the league. However, it was Alvis who started on the front foot. They looked sharper in the tackle and quicker to any loose balls. With a better final ball and some more composed finishing they could, in fact, have been at least a couple of goals to the good after 30 minutes.
Michael Turner, the Chelmesley keeper, was called upon to make one very good save but, in the main, he was not stretched, with the exception of an Aaron Cooke free-kick, from the edge of the box, which whistled past his right-hand post and out for a goal-kick.

With half-time rapidly approaching Alvis were made to pay for their wastefulness. When the ball dropped to Kaine Williams on the edge of the home box he first turned to his left and then dragged a low shot back across Jack Tregath and into his bottom left-hand corner. 0-1.

HT Coventry Alvis 0 Chelmsley Town 1. The home side caught by the classic sucker-punch after looking much the better team for most of the half.

A fine evening in Warwickshire
The second half continued almost in the same vein as the first. Alvis continued to look the better of the two sides but not with quite the same amount of domination as they had in the first period. A little more niggle came into the game after half-time as well.
One or two confrontations, in midfield especially, threatened to boil over once or twice prompting a few yellow cards to be shown.

Chelmsley, to be fair, always looked reasonably comfortable and happy to retain their one goal lead. When they did break out their main outlet was Jemuel Mills who, it has to be said, ran himself into the ground for his team.

Late in the game lightning struck twice. With the home side pressing up in search of an equaliser the ball was launched clear down the Chelmsley left flank. Alvis had only left one player back on the halfway line and he had to track to his right in an attempt to beat the lone Town striker to the ball. The keeper also raced out of his box. In the ensuing mix-up the ball broke to the Chelmsley striker who looked up to spot the run of Louis Inverary, breaking through the middle. The ball was rolled into the substitutes path and he had the simple task of finishing into an unguarded net. 0-2.

FT Coventry Alvis 0 Chelmsley Town 2. Alvis were made to pay a high price for not scoring when they were on top. Town, to their credit, kept plugging away despite clearly not being at their best.

I do hope that the Stockport Hopper made it home without too many delays on the notorious M6. Me, I'll be looking out for a chance to visit United's new home so that I can finally finish off my CV.

Walsall Wood leave Chelmsley Town chewed on the carpet

A stonking away win for Walsall Wood again last Bank Holiday Monday (28th August 2017) as they demolished Chelmsley Town on the astroturf at Coleshill.

A stonking away win for Walsall Wood again last Bank Holiday Monday (28th August 2017) as they demolished Chelmsley Town on the astroturf at Coleshill.

Bill Shaw was there, and while happy, isn’t counting the chickens just yet:

League leaders Chelmsley Town had won five out of six but hadn’t beaten anyone of note, in fact Atherstone Town beaten four-one by Wood on Saturday had beaten them six-one on Saturday 12th August.  The form book was again proved right as Wood just swept them aside with a very impressive performance that will have everyone thinking that their pre-season favourite tag was more than justified, as they are now the only team in the division with a 100% record in August with 20 scored and only three conceded.

Littleton are the visitors on Saturday, they haven’t had a brilliant start but Wood are now certainly the team to beat and the opposition will be raising their games accordingly.

There are interesting times ahead at the Wood, as well as exciting ones.  Come down and see for yourself.

Chelmsley Town 0 v 7 Walsall Wood

Wood who are now the only side with a 100% record (five out of five) took their time before going ahead against the league leaders, 2-0 up at the break they ran riot in the last 30 minutes. A superb performance by stand in keeper Chris Gummery kept the score in single figures as he made a string of brave saves late on.

Wood were in control from the start but the home side worked hard to restrict space. On 12 minutes Lewis Hayden made the right of the box, cut the ball back into the path of Paul Sullivan whose first time low drive was well held by keeper Michael Turner. A minute later it was Peter Till racing clear wide left, his vicious low cross missed by everyone.

A minute later a clumsy, untidy, high clearance from the Wood found Alex Knight to volley an effort out of the ground. 16 minutes gone Till released wide left, his low cross found Lewis Taylor Boyce whose first time drive came back off the bar, Joey Butlin first to the loose ball, his shot blocked on the line. It was Butlin a minute later beating the off side trap as he raced into the left of the box, Turner out to meet him as he fired a low drive wide. A lovely right wing move saw Craig Deakin play the ball inside to Butlin to set up Sullivan, his low drive superbly saved. The goal Wood deserved came on 29 minutes, Danny Okojie collected the ball wide left, came inside and hit a cross to the far post that beat Turner to nestle in the far corner of the net. Call it what you will but that’s the third identical goal in 2 months. Wood won the ball back from the restart, Sullivan making the left of the box, his cross cum shot bouncing to safety off the top of the bar with Turner beaten. On 45 minutes Okojie wide left crossed to the far post for Butlin to volley home. Right on half time Deakin ran through a tiring defence, played the ball right to Butlin who fired first time wide.

It took Wood just four minutes of the second half to put the game to bed, Okojie wide left finding Sullivan in the box, he got to the byeline, crossed low for Butlin to fire home number three. Town then replaced keeper Turner with outfield substitute Chris Gummery who made a couple of good saves but he was powerless on 66 minutes when Jordan Fitzpatrick raced clear wide left, his low cross fired home by Sullivan.

To their credit Town tried to take the game to Wood, two minutes later Richard Lernihan powered in a header from a right wing cross to bring a full length save from Wood keeper Lloyd Ransome.

Back came Wood, two minutes later Fitzpatrick made space wide right, his ball inside found Butlin whose low drive was pushed away by Gummery. The defence couldn’t get the ball away, Sullivan running onto a ball from the left, turning defenders inside out before calmly slotting home number five. It was Sullivan cutting inside from wide left five minutes later, Gummery saving bravely at his feet. four minutes later a ball over the top of the defence into the left of the box was collected at pace by Clarke who cut inside his marker, his low cross shot pushed out by Gummery. Lewis Taylor Boyce first to react to score into the roof of the net. On 84 minutes Clarke raced into the right of the box, going down under a clumsy challenge – penalty – Sullivan – who else – hat trick – seven-nil. In the last five minutes Clarke was denied three times by the brave Gummery in one on one situations, before right on time the keeper raced from his line to deny the impressive Sullivan.

Wood with five wins from five move ominously into second place, a point behind new leaders Studley, but with two games in hand. They controlled this game from start to finish and could have had 12 or more if stand in keeper Chris Gummery hadn’t turned in a five star performance.

It’s Littleton the visitors on Saturday, is there still needle from season 2012-13? Why not come down the Wood and see?

Wood crushes Chelmsley

A stonking home  win for Walsall Wood again last Tuesday evening (19th September 2017) as the Wood lads consolidated their domination of Chelmsley Town, this time on the real turf of Walsall Wood.

This really was a stroll in the park for Wood, Saturday’s game will be a different kettle of fish as they look to put their season back on track.  Suffice to say you can only beat what’s in front of you, but Town really aren’t very good.

PP League Cup
Walsall Wood 3 v 0 Chelmsley Town

Wood got back to winning ways progressing comfortably through to the next round. It took just eight minutes for Tony Clarke to open the scoring. Joey Butlin doubled the lead on 24 with Paul Sullivan wrapping up this stroll in the park on 87 minutes.

With just one minute gone Tony Clarke raced clear wide left, his low cross hit first time by Joey Butlin, keeper James Kelly at full stretch pushing the ball away. five minutes later Wood debutant Keenan Meakin-Richards played a through ball to find Clarke left of the box, he faded right, across the face of the box, Kelly blocking his low drive. The keeper was powerless two minutes later however as Lewis Taylor Boyce won the ball on halfway and fed Harry Harris who released Clarke into the box just right of centre, to run on and chip the ball over the stranded Kelly to put Wood ahead. three minutes later Craig Deakin wide right played the ball inside to Harris, his defence splitting ball was collected at pace by Clarke, his first time effort saved at the second attempt by Kelly.

On 18 minutes a long ball out of defence by Town saw Wood keeper Lloyd Ransome race from his area to kick clear from Jamie Barrett.

Three minutes later Callum McFarlane’s ball out of defence found Butlin, who seeing Deakin fly past him played the ball into his path, his low drive blocked by Harry Sweeney. Wood doubled their lead when on 24 minutes Harris delivered a left wing corner to the near post, Butlin skilfully touching the ball home from a very tight angle.

Town won a left wing corner on 31 minutes, Barrett saw his shot charged down, a bit of a scramble developed but the ball was eventually cleared.

Wood almost made it three when six minutes later a right wing run and cross by Deakin was headed goalwards by Clarke, Kelly at full stretch pushed the ball away, Butlin was first to react but his low drive was charged down by a posse of defenders.

A quiet start to the second half until on 56 minutes McFarlane won the ball in the centre and hit a lovely diagonal ball to find Deakin on the right edge of the box, his cracking volley flying just wide. five minutes later Darren Campion delivered a left wing free kick into the box, Butlin planting a header narrowly wide. 70 minutes gone, Butlin raced onto a right wing throw in powered into the box, his low near post drive superbly held by Kelly. It was Butlin again two minutes later, collecting a ball into the right of the box, only to fire wide of the near post.

On 77 minutes a superb five man one touch move through the centre carved open the visitors defence before the ball was played to Taylor Boyce on the right of the box to fire a first time effort inches over, a real pity as this would have been a contender for goal of the season. Wood kept up the pressure and on 85 minutes a McFarlane rising drive from the left edge of the box cannoned to safety off the bar with Kelly soundly beaten. two minutes later Taylor Boyce held the ball up cleverly in the centre of the box before feeding substitute Paul Sullivan who sidestepped two desperate challenges before passing the ball into the net.

After Saturday’s result Wood bounced back with a very comfortable win without having to get out of second gear. The FA Vase game at Cradley Town will be a harder task on Saturday as Wood look to put another unbeaten run together.

‘TREAT people as you would like to be treated’ is a mantra Courtney Belford is staying true to in the early throws of his managerial career.

The 27-year-old followed in his dad Dale’s footsteps by entering management when he succeeded John Farmer as the boss of Nuneaton Griff in September.

After little over a month in the job and with league form improving, Belford ‘junior’ has his feet firmly under the table at the Pingles Stadium.

Saturday’s 3-1 success over Chelmsley Town was his first league win in charge as the new boss continues to put his stamp on the squad.

“We’re working hard to build a squad with the right type of players with the right type of attitude,” said Belford.

“For the first time on Saturday I’ve had to tell some lads they’re not in the 18 and that’s tough. But I like to think I treat players how I would like to be treated as a player.

“When I played I always kept my ears open to how managers dealt with players. I always thought I’d like to move into management one day and I picked up on how I think players would like to be treated.

“Some lads have decided they want to move on and I wish them well. No hard feelings, I’ve got difficult decisions to make.

“But equally if lads want to come here and give their all at a good standard of football, we can build something together, or they might get a move up the football pyramid and go on to bigger and better things. If we do those things, I think that’s job done for us.”

It took the striker to six goals so far this season as he bids to provide the firepower to shoot Griff away from the lower reaches of the Midlands League Division One.

“Matt has had his injury problems but he’s really come into form of late,” praised Belford. “Matt puts in a shift and if he gets a decent chance on goal, nine times out of ten he will take it. On days like Saturday that is the difference when conditions aren’t great. The weather was rubbish, but it was bad for both teams and players like Matt can get you a goal and really change things.

“I am giving him a run in the team and I want him to go out there and enjoy his football and play with a smile on his face.”

Frustrated Joe Obi quit as boss of Bolehall Swifts this week and admitted his first job in management had been a ‘massive eye-opener’.
Obi, who made 178 appearances and scored 55 goals for Swifts, departed after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Chelmsley Town with Bolehall lying 16th in Midland League One.

TWO POINTS DROPPED FOR ADDERS
Missed chances cost Adders at Pack Meadow.......

Adders moved into second place on goal difference in the Total Motion MFL Division 1, but it was certainly two points lost rather than one gained against a Chelmsley Town side that had won only two of their last twelve games.
Alex Naughton's early goal was cancelled out by a Brad Lindsey free-kick ten minutes before half-time and although Adders dominated the second half they couldn't find a winner against a determined Chelmsley side, with goalkeeper James Kelly in inspired form.
Ivor Green made one change to the team that beat Ilkeston Town last time out, with Jonathan Gould replacing Ryan Quinn who was unavailable.
The home side started the brighter and created the first chance of the game with centre-forward Alex Carlin having his shot deflected for a corner.
The resulting corner saw Sam Sadler get away at the front post and he should have punished Adders static defence but headed over from 4 yards.
Two minutes later the home side were ruing their missed chances, Jonathan Gould made ground on the left hand side before playing in Alex Naughton who advanced into the penalty area and lifted the ball over Kelly to give Adders the lead.
Adders were dominating possession but clear cut chances were few and far between, Mitch Thomson had the best of them when the influential Gould found him in the box but he dragged his shot wide.
Ten minutes before half-time the home side evened things up, Scott Goodby was penalised for a mis-timed tackle and Brad Lindsey stepped forward to leave George Woodward grasping thin air from 25 yards.
Three minutes later it could have been even worse for Adders as Woodward spilled a long throw, but managed to redeem himself by pushing Sadlers' shot from 8 yards over the bar.
The final chance of the half fell to Thomson but his sharp effort was superbly turned around the post by Kelly.

Half-Time: 1-1

The second-half started as a mirror image of the first with the home side creating the first chance, substitute Jamie Barrett got free inside the penalty area but his shot from Keeleys' cross hit the outside of the post.
The rest of the game was almost totally dominated by the visitors, chances for Naughton (twice), Shorthouse (twice) and Thomson were spurned, although Thomson was unlucky to see his effort hit the outside of the post with Kelly beaten.
Although the home side were pinned back in their own half for long periods half chances for Kent, Fitzgerald and Sadler kept Adders rearguard aware that one mistake could cost them dear.
With Jonathan Gould causing all kinds of problems down the left it was surely only a matter of time though until Adders took the lead, further chances for Eggleton, Shorthouse and Goodby went begging before the visitors looked to have grabbed themselves a winner.
In the 90th minute Naughton carved out a chance on the left but although his shot beat Kelly it cannoned back off the post to the feet of Shorthouse 8 yards out, when it looked as if he would settle matters Kelly heroically threw himself infront of his well hit shot and deflected it over the bar to earn his team a point.

Full-Time: 1-1

M.O.M ( Sponsored by Lynn Ford): Jonathan Gould

Atherstone Town: Woodward, Eggleton, Bilic, Haines, Williams (Walker-Donovan), Goodby, Harris (Shorthouse), Baxter, Naughton, Thomson, Gould.
Subs (Not Used): Mewies, Gray.

27/08/2016 Chelmsley Town 0 Leicester Road 2

Source: John Poole

Leicester Road visited the new 3G pitch at Pack Meadow for the first time to take on newly promoted Chelmsley Town as they sought to consolidate their good start to the season.
There were grey skies overhead and rain in the air as the two teams kicked off and the ball was zipping around on the artificial turf making the first touch all important. For Leicester Road Joshua Smith was replacing Nick Hawkins and Jack Harrison replaced Luke Kingsley-Smith as the only changes from the team that had beaten Stafford Town on Tuesday. The game started slowly as both teams probed for the first opening of the game but it was 15 minutes before a snapshot from a Chelmsley forward sailed wide of Will Highlands post, and the hosts went close again soon after from a corner. Will Highland was called into action on 18 minutes when he made a fine save from the Chelmsley Number 9 and the same player missed a golden opportunity soon after to give Chelmsley the lead. The visitors were gradually getting used to the 3G pitch and Sam Munton and Tom McGlinchey provided Joe Lyne with an opportunity that went narrowly wide. Matty Stenson took the ball past the keeper on the half hour but couldn't squeeze the ball in from a tight angle and from the follow up Callum Earls shot narrowly over. As the half time break approached it was Leicester Road on top and Theo Brown went close to giving the visitors the lead. The game at this stage had everything but a goal and the referee was allowing both teams to provide an entertaining spectacle.
H/T Chelmsley Town FC 0 – 0 LRFC
Rain welcomed the players out for the second half and for Leicester Road Callum O'Sullivan replaced Jack Harrison as the visitors looked to press home their advantage from before the break. The home keeper was in action after 56 minutes when a fine save kept the teams level. It wasn't all one way traffic though and on the hour Chelmsley were unlucky when a shot rebounded off the visitors post. It was clear that the first goal was going to be all important and on 62 minutes Leicester Road got that goal when Matty Stenson picked up the ball and from 30 yards unleashed a shot that deflected off a Chelmsley foot and past the stricken keeper. Chelmsley Town 0- 1 LRFC
With their tails up, the visitors continued to press and after a cross from the right had been narrowly missed, it was Stenson again who brought out a fine save from the keeper and as the rebound came out Callum O'Sullivan narrowly missed the opportunity to make it 2-0. On 75 minutes the home keeper was again in action making a point blank save and Sam Munton's follow up effort came back off the inside of the post and out to safety.
As the game entered the last ten minutes Chelmsley looked to get something from the game and a couple of efforts sailed high and wide. At the other end and with time ticking away it was Matty Stenson who picked the ball up in midfield and as the Chelmsley defence back pedalled he threaded a super ball through for Tom McGlinchey to advance on the keeper and slip the ball past him to make sure of the three points from a strong display from the visitors.

Source: Redditch Standard

FECKENHAM exited the Smedley Crooke Memorial Charity Cup as they were beaten 6-3 at Chelmsley Town on Tuesday.
Jack Brimmell bagged a brace and Daniel Williams also struck for the Millers, who experienced better fortunes on Saturday when they defeated visitors Sutton United 5-0 in the Les James Challenge Cup.
Millers boss Aaron Blackwood handed a debut to 21-year-old keeper Josh Goddard but the action was all at the other end as the hosts dominated.
Umit Eminoglu released George Tolley to open the scoring with a superb low drive and it was 2-0 when Ben Cox and Brimmell combined to set up Tolley to curl home.
The goal of the game arrived just before the break when a fine move ended with Brimmell pulling the ball back for Cox to hammer home on the volley.
In the second half, Williams scored in a one-on-one before 18-year-old Tolley completed his second hat-trick of the season when he forced the Sutton keeper into a mistake before converting into an empty net.

Murphy and I avoid the shoe rack and tip on Saturday morning. I spend the majority of it in the kitchen listening to the Danny Baker Show and Fighting Talk, whilst knocking up a chilli. Bournemouth v Tottenham are kicking off on Five Live as we head off to Wolverhampton.

We avoid the M6 Toll and stick to the A5 and A460. It's like a scene from Emmerdale Farm as cows are herded up a country lane, with a tractor in tow, full of manure, before we take a right hand turn into the ground.

Wolverhampton is a city with a population of 250,000 people. It was once famous for mining coal, iron ore and limestone. The first set of automatic traffic lights were trialled in the city in 1927. Celebrity folk born in Wolverhampton include: England football coach Don Howe and the singer Beverley Knight. It is also home to the following bands: Slade, Cornershop, The Mighty Lemon Drops and Babylon Zoo.

I leave Ms Moon to put some 'lippy' on and listen to 'Gambers' spinning the hits from 1988. The pictures I've seen of Brinsford Stadium, on the Net, don't do it justice. It's without doubt the coolest ground we've been to this season. 'Rock the Casbah' by The Clash is booming out the PA as I admire the tree-lined surroundings and immaculate playing surface. Coffee and Bailey's is on offer at £1.60 a cup.

I get chinwagging to a guy sat in the stands. He's played for and watched this team for over 50 years. I clock Ms Moon chatting to the young ref who must be 6' 4" -  she can't arf pick em.  We stroll across to the far side and position ourselves to the right of the home dugout.

The DJ is still churning out the toons - 'Lip Up Fatty' by Bad Manners is the pick of the bunch. Chelmsley Town are the visitors. Watford striker Troy Deeney was born in Chelmsley Heath and played for their youth team before being picked up by Walsall. He was subject to a £25 million bid by Leicester in the summer.

Chelmsley kick down the slope, they have more energy and ideas than Casuals - 6 jacket is outstanding. A home team sub sucks on a cigar adjacent to the dugout - he strokes his beard as he exhales. He's reminiscent of a young Fidel Castro. The visitors open the scoring just before the break.

The music from the PA doesn't reach the dizzy heights of pre-match, although we're treated to Wonderwall by Oasis. I strike up a conversation with a lovely guy called 'Daz' who knows the local scene like the back of his hand - he has years of experience in men's and women's football in the Black Country. Daz is confident of victory despite a poor show in the first half.

The game is littered with petty fouls and yellow cards. The poor old Ref has little option but to brandish cards with the 'Match Observer' and his sharpening pencil in the stand. Casuals restore parity with a goal by 10 jacket. The game looks to be petering out, with another extra-time beckoning. With seconds remaining Casuals centre half seizes upon a loose ball to fire home the winner.

Daz is ecstatic, he fist pumps the chilly fresh air. The guy just loves the game. There's no bad-mouthing officials, or querying decisions. He's totally immersed in the beautiful game. Unlike a couple of visiting supporters who at the end of the game hurl abuse at Ms Moon's 'toyboy' - calling him a 'pencil-necked p***k.' Oh deary me.

Yesterday I was visited by Pasty Sam and my intended target was Loughborough but sadly his train turned up to late and with it to much we aborted the plan near the Nec. Fortunately for Sam, I had a back up at Coleshill Town’s ground where tenants Chelmsley were playing.

The visitors were one from bottom of the Midland Division one Stafford who usually play well when I see them and they did today. The game was fairly poor and quite tetchy with frequent arguments breaking out . Stafford in the red took the lead on 24 minutes, Dodd turning and firing into the bottom right.

Stafford remained on top and applied heavy pressure but it was not to be as Chelmsley got lucky with a shot that flew in the top corner.

04/02/2017 Chelmsley Town 1 Bromsgrove Sporting 4

Source: Bromsgrove Standard (Craig Gibbons)

A SIGN of a good team that still picks up another valuable three points despite being slightly below par and a bizarre end to the match in added time, writes Phil Baker.
A lovely sunny but cool day in the Warwickshire countryside saw the home side kick off on their artificial 3G pitch and were immediately in action with Liam Norris hitting a useful 20-yard drive but going straight into the arms of away ‘keeper Jon Brown.
Then just a minute later, Liam Spink put over a cross from the right to the near post that Luke Shorthouse glanced goalwards to the top left hand corner producing an outstanding one-hand save from James Kelly between the sticks for Chelmsley.
However, the Rouslers got their noses in front on the 14th minute with Reece Hewitt sending a well-aimed pass to Shorthouse down the left.
The lanky striker put a first-time cross into the box that Chris Lloyd collected, rounded two defenders before making a low shot into the right-hand corner of the net.
Gradually Sporting were getting used to bounce and feel of the pitch and Hewitt turned that to his advantage as he attempted to dance through the box only to be upended by Danny Charlton.
Referee Mr Groves pointed to the spot and a chance for Lloyd to double his tally.
However, Kelly guessed correctly, diving to the right and parrying the shot before collecting Lloyd’s attempt at burying the re-bound from close to the post.
After 22 minutes, Hewitt’s header was easily saved by Kelly then a few minutes later Shorthouse followed a long pass in to the box but had to be helped off the pitch after suffering an ankle injury in the process, to be substituted by Andy Nicol.
Chelmsley had a good chance on the 36th minute when striker Dan Elwell evaded a Danny Morris tackle then rounded a couple of defenders before forcing Brown into a low save.
With half-time looming and Bromsgrove seeking to extend their lead, Nicol was brought down in the box by Kelly earning himself a yellow card for the trouble.
This time Spink made no mistake with the spot kick sending the home ‘keeper the wrong way.
After the interval Chelmsley came out much brighter moving the ball around quickly taking advantage of the flat surface and got a deserved goal on 57 minutes when a quick break up field left Aaron Roberts with two strikers to deal with.
He dispossessed Garry Turner but the ball ran to Elwell who curled a delightful shot between Brown and the left-hand post.
Sporting had a couple of shots cleared of the line and Keenen Meakin-Richards was lucky not to put one into his own net on the 71st minute, when a Chelmsley shot re-bounded off him and had to be cleared off the line.
As the match moved into added time and it looked as if Sporting would have to settle for a one-goal advantage, Spink was involved in an altercation over a throw in.
Adam Keeley rather forcefully pushed the Bromsgrove player away, who then returned the compliment.
Cue for several players to join in a melee which after a few moments saw Spink get a red card and his opponent a yellow.
The referee was only a few yards from the incident so presumably he saw enough to justify sending Spink for an early shower rather than a caution.
What was then supposed to be a nervous five minutes for Sporting was just the opposite as a move upfield saw Nicol chip a cross into the box that substitute Tom Craine powerfully headed home giving him team their third goal.
Then after robbing the home side from the re-start Craine took the ball down the right before passing to Sam Wills just inside the box whose angled drive went just past Kelly for the away side’s fourth.
In the end, a comfortable win for the Bromsgrove outfit who thanks to other results going their way return to the top of the table.

PERSHORE Town drew 2-2 against Chelmsley Town to extend their Midland League Division One unbeaten run to three matches.

The hosts went ahead after 20 minutes when Steve Webb’s pass put Jamie Clarke through to round the keeper and slot home.

Chris Whittaker’s over-hit cross hit the post as Pershore looked comfortable but slowly the visitors came back into the game.

They equalised with a fierce free-kick from outside the box by Steve Sadler after 33 minutes.

Town keeper Shaun Edwards made a few decent saves as Chelmsley looked stronger early in the second half.

They went ahead after 56 minutes when substitute Lee Yonwin beat the advancing Edwards.

Pershore pushed for an equaliser and Reece Jacobs headed over from six yards.

But Clarke completed his brace when another Webb ball was flicked on by Ben Lane for him to round the keeper and level.

Pershore moved out of the relegation zone to within two points of three teams ahead of Saturday’s trip to Racing Club Warwick (3pm).

PELSALL VILLA 0 CHELMSLEY TOWN 0

Pelsall Villa and Chelmsley Town played out a goalless draw at The Bush in a lower end of the table clash.

With both teams coming into the match in need of three points to lift them clear of the relegation battle, it was unlikely to be a high scoring match.

Both sides shared the few chances created and with Villa reduced to 10 men on 70 minutes the momentum swung the way of the visitors.  The Villians could have won it late on with Ryan Wilkins shooting wide from a good chance but the points shared was a fair result.

05/03/2016 Chelmsley Town 2 Droitwich Spa 1

A top of the table clash beckons me today as I head east of Birmingham to watch Chelmsley Town host Droitwich Spa at their ground in the village of Marston Green. It's in the Midlands Football League, 2nd Division. It will be another new ground for me.

The weather is promising, cold but with no rain likely to fall for a change.

This match has been on my radar and I have been encouraged to go as 1/ it will be a new ground for me 2/ Droitwich are a local team to me and have been doing well this season and 3/ the Communications Manager of Droitwich Spa, Ben Lloyd, has been in touch with me, as he has come across this Blog and has said he has enjoyed reading about my travels. He also said that it would be good if I could take photos for the club at this match.

I journey to Birmingham on the train and after a spot of shopping and some lunch, take the London Euston bound train from New Street station to get to Marston Green. When we are approaching the platform I can see the tower blocks of Chelmsley Wood in the near distance gleaming in the sunshine.

Although Marston Green is classed as a village, it does boast a population of 5,000 and is basically part of the commuter belt for Birmingham, Solihull and probably London. While making the 20 minute walk to the ground, I can see several houses that have a cottage like look and gives an impression of a village atmosphere. There is countryside close by as well and with the sunshine and daffodils  in bloom by the roadside there is definitely a hint of Spring in the air.

I soon find the ground just to the left on the Coleshill Road, make my way through the small car park and turn right towards the club house, which is behind one end of the pitch.

This end has an entrance door, through the netting, (see above) through which the players go on to the pitch from the changing rooms.

I find several Droitwich supporters in the club house and chat to Ben Lloyd before heading out to view the proceedings. It looks like that at least half of the spectators are from Droitwich today. The club have experienced an upturn in fortunes this season under the guidance of joint managers, Wayne Oliver and (ex-Worcester City player) Mark Owen. There has been talk of promotion in the Worcester News and the possibility of ground sharing with another local club, as Droitwich don't have the right facilities in place if they do finish in the top two.

Chelmsley Town club have been going since 1927 and are just behind Droitwich in the table, in 3rd place, while Rostance Edwards sit in top spot. Droitwich have also been unbeaten in their last 21 matches!

The players troop on to the pitch, with Chelmsley in light blue shirts and black shorts and shirts. Droitwich Spa are in their away strip today of white shirts, red shorts and socks.

It's a game with not much quality football on show to be honest, competitive though with both sides not giving each other an inch, which you expect in a match of this nature.

Droitwich Spa go close after 23 minutes when a free-kick is dinked in and their No.9, James Lemon, is just wide with his effort.

Chelmsley go even closer on the half hour when they have a shot from the right that clips the cross bar.

It's still goalless at the interval and it's a difficult call to predict who the likely winners might be today.

At half time I go in to the club house for a much needed cup of tea. It's a pretty good facility for a club of this size and both the bar and tea bar are doing a good trade.

Also apart from the main pitch, there is another at the back of it and a smaller one on the right side of it. On the other side the ground is bordered by housing.

So the second-half gets under way and it's the home team who come to the fore.

After 56 minutes Chelmsley are awarded a penalty when they have a player brought down in the area. Their No.11 , Mitchell Thompson, duly dispatches a shot to the Droitwich's keepers left and they quickly proceed to press home their advantage in the very next minute.

Their No.9, the burly Kieron Fitzgerald, attacks down the left of the visitor's area, draws the tackle from the Droitwich captain , Mike Seeley (as shown below) and skips past on his right before bearing down on goal and squeezes in the ball through the narrow angle and in to the net, despite the keeper being in close proximity. Very good goal!

For a big guy, Fitzgerald is very nimble on his feet. So now the Saltmen have a mountain to climb to get back in this match.

Despite stepping up their efforts Chelmsley hold firm, well marshalled in defence by the silver haired Ross Casey.

Near the end of full time, Chelmsley nearly add to their tally when their top scorer, Chris Lloyd first blazes over the bar and then has another shot saved at the near post.

In injury time though, Droitwich's top scorer, James Lemon scores with a shot from the left but it's come too late to save their unbeaten record.

I think the best team has definitely won today but I am sure that Droitwich can play better than this. This win sees Chelmsley hop over Droitwich in to 2nd place. It's going to be an interesting last few weeks of the season, with Chelmsley, Droitwich, Rostance Edwards and Alvis Sporting all in the running to win the Division 2 title. Alvis have several games in hand and an unbeaten league record but have the pressure of playing at least twice every week before the finish.

Woodlands WMC have won the Coventry Telegraph Cup Final after a 2-1 victory over Chelmsley Town at the Ricoh Arena.

Chelmsley Town from the MFL started the brighter with a couple of efforts including a Keiron Fitzgerald free kick in the sixth minute which just went over the bar of keeper Steve Crook, who has played for Coventry Sphinx this season, from twenty five yards.

The first goal of the evening came in the tenth minute and saw the ball fall for Ben Twigger who executed a neat shot into the bottom corner from twenty yards.

Craig Formaston's Woodlands side won a corner in the 12th minute and had settled down on a wet evening on the outskirts of Coventry.

Chris Lloyd had a great chance in the 16th minute when he was sent through but he stopped by the feet of Crook and sent over a free kick from range in the 25th minute.

As the rain came down. Town won a corner which Tom Ellis blasted over and Lloyd had a 32nd minute shot blocked by Brook.

Chelmsley were unlucky not to have had a penalty when Lloyd was pulled down and Chris Brook fired wide at the other end.

Keiron Fitzgerald fired over for Chelmsley five minutes into the second half as the rain continued to come down

Chris Brook tried with a thirty five yarder but five minutes later.
Chelmsley attacked down the left, the ball came to over Mitchell Thompson and somehow, Ben Thackery cleared off the line.

Lloyd had a 63rd minute shot from fourteen yards pushed over for a
corner.

Woodlands won one of their own after making a double change in the 68th minute. James Kelly parried the flag kick but Chris Brook was on hand to stab home.

In the 74th minute, Woodlands were down to ten men when Scott Hadland was sent off for having his hand on the throat of a Chelmsley Town player.

Chelmsley tried to seize the numerical advantage and Nicholas Ellis got some twenty five yards out and drilled a stunning shot low in to the net.

Sadler let rip with a shot that Brook had to push over in the 88th minute but Woodlands WMC held on and won the cup..
